Detailed Itinerary: Day by Day

Day 1: Cusco - Puerto Maldonado - Monkey Island

You'll be picked up upon your arrival to Puerto Maldonado, which is known as Peru's Biodiversity Capital.  We'll first visit the market.  Lunch will be either in the city or at the Inn, depending on time of arrival.  At the port we'll board our boat to begin the trip to the Inn; it's approximately a 1 hour trip along the Madre de Dios River.  You'll be assigned bungalows in accordance with the reservations. 

Our first excursion will be to Monkey Island, where you'll be able to spot a great variety of monkeys, including black spider monkeys, capuchins, pygmy marmosets, squirrel monkeys, etc. 

We'll return to the inn for dinner and in the night you will have the option to participate in nocturnal activities or not.

Day 2: Sandoval Lake

After a delicious breakfast we'll depart by foot en route to Sandoval Lake; it's about a 1½ hour walk through the virgin jungle, where we'll be able to appreciate a diverse amount of plant and animal life. This includes plants such as orchids and plantanillos, which grow 10-15ft and have striking red flowers. Animals such as giant otters, Cayman alligators and wild chickens can be spotted. Some of the fish you'll see include the Amazon's infamous piranhas and Paiches, which at more than 6.6ft are one of the world's largest freshwater fish. If you like, you'll be able to safely bathe in the waters. We'll have lunch during the trip.
We'll have dinner and spend the night at the Inn. You'll have the option of participating in nocturnal activities.

Day 3: Taricaya Project

In the morning we'll have a typical breakfast that's representative of the zone and then depart downriver en route to Project Taricaya, approximately an hour-long trip. There, we'll be able to appreciate a large variety of animals such as the pig-like collared peccary, turtles, little spotted cats (leopardus tigrinus), macaws, goats, etc.). We'll have lunch and go on a jungle walk along paths and across a hanging bridge (100m long/60m high) in order to learn about native animals and medicinal plants.
Dinner will be back at the Inn. You'll have the option to rest or participate in nocturnal activities.

Day 4: Trip Arround the Inn

After breakfast we'll explore the land around the Inn, observing the local plant and animal life for approximately three hours. We'll enjoy a delicious lunch before returning to the inn. You'll have the afternoon free.

Day 5: Parrot Clay Lick - Puerto Maldonado

This day we will get up very early and head on our boat up the river toward to the Collpa de Loros ( Collpa of The Parrots), on arrival if weather conditions permit, where you can watch hundreds of parrot and macaws of various species to feed, will remain in the lick about 1 hour and 30 minutes, is an experience you will never forget. We'll have breakfast to return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
