Detailed Itinerary: Day by Day
Day 1:
Day 1 Puerto Maldonado – Monkey Islands - Kayak
Our Puerto Maldonado Tour adventure will begin with a visit to the city's Modelo Market, where we will stop to enjoy typical dishes from the Madre de Dios region (lunch). Afterwards, we will continue our journey to the bungalows, where we will stay. To reach them, we will take a boat trip along the Madre de Dios River, navigating for approximately 1 hour while enjoying beautiful views of the Amazon rainforest.
Upon arrival, we will be welcomed with a typical jungle drink, followed by some time to settle into our bungalows. Later, we will continue with the day's adventure by visiting Monkey Island, where we will observe hundreds of monkeys from different species, such as maquisapa monkeys, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and more. We will also enjoy activities such as kayaking and caiman spotting.
After this excursion, we will return to our bungalows, where you can choose to relax or participate in a night jungle tour. Afterwards, we will settle into our bungalows and rest for the night. Overnight at the lodge.

Our Tambopata tour adventure begins with a delicious breakfast. Afterwards, we will head out to enjoy an exciting zip-line activity at a height of 35 meters. We will glide using a harness along 190 meters and 100 meters of cable, with all the necessary safety equipment. After the activity, we return to the lodge to enjoy a good lunch.
After lunch, we will depart towards Lake Sandoval, which will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach. The route we will follow passes through the heart of the virgin rainforest. Once there, we will navigate the lake in traditional wooden boats, where we can observe various bird species and, with some luck, the giant river otters.
While traveling across the lake, we will see a great diversity of flora and fauna, including orchids, small plants, and animals such as caimans, crocodiles, piranhas, and paiches. During our journey, there will also be the opportunity to swim in the rivers.

The parrot clay lick is a wall of clay rich in mineral salts. Every morning, hundreds of macaws and green parrots gather here to feed on the clay, creating a spectacular natural show.
After enjoying the impressive sight of the parrots and macaws at the clay lick, we will have a delicious breakfast. Later, we will return to our lodge to collect our belongings and then travel back to Puerto Maldonado, where our 3-day adventure comes to an end

Arriving to Puerto Maldonado
The most common methods of arriving to Puerto Maldonado is to take a 1hr flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (Cusco itself being a 1hr flight from Lima) or a 12hr bus from Cusco. (Intrepid adventurers can approach the port by water along the Tambopata or Madre de Dios Rivers, but this will take several days and is not for the faint of heart.)
Preparation for the Amazon
You will be asked to go through a Yellow Fever Vaccination Checkpoint in the Puerto Maldonado Airport and present your Yellow Fever Vaccination Card. It is not listed as an official requirement for entry, but local officials commonly check regardless and in order to have an enjoyable and safe trip you should consider it a must, along with a regimen of malaria pills.
