Detailed Itinerary: Day by Day
DAY 1:
Historic Iquitos, River Navigation & Welcome to Cumaceba
Iquitos Highlights & Rubber Boom Heritage: We will begin our Amazon adventure by picking you up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos for a guided walking tour of the city’s main highlights. You will explore the historic Plaza de Armas, the main church, the world-famous Iron House, and several grand historic mansions dating back to the wealthy rubber boom era.
Sailing the Mighty Amazon River: After the city tour, we will board our motorized boat and navigate for about 15 minutes along the Itaya River until reaching the mighty Amazon River—the largest river in the world by volume. We will continue our scenic river journey until arriving at the Cumaceba Curaka Inn lodge. Along the way, with a bit of luck, we may spot beautiful gray and pink dolphins playing in the water.
Lodge Welcome & Amazonian Biodiversity: Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a traditional, exotic drink made from fresh seasonal fruits. You will then be assigned your private room to settle in and rest. Afterward, we head out on a guided excursion to explore the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna unique to the Peruvian Amazon. We will enjoy a typical regional lunch and have free time to photograph and observe wild birds.
Jungle Night Walk & Amphibian Spotting: We will return to the lodge to savor a delicious dinner. Morning is the absolute best time to observe a wide variety of exotic species, including the legendary Hoatzin (Shansho)—celebrated worldwide as the only ruminant bird on Earth. Afterward, we return to the lodge for breakfast.
Jungle Wildlife Care Visit: Following breakfast, we will visit a local riverside family who responsibly care for various animal species such as boa constrictors, majestic anacondas, sloths, and Amazonian turtles, learning about their habits and protection.
Artisanal Extraction of Sugarcane Juice: During this excursion, we will also visit a traditional sugarcane processing site to learn about the artisanal extraction of sugarcane juice. You will have the unique opportunity to participate in the process and taste the delicious, fresh beverages made from it.

We will then return to the lodge.

We will also have the opportunity to observe the majestic Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant in the world—its giant leaves are famous for being able to support up to 4 kg (9 lbs) in weight.

Cusco is a city meant to be explored on foot. Additionally, sitting at around 3,400 meters 11,150 feet above sea level, a relaxed stroll helps you acclimate to the altitude, making you feel much better before taking on longer or more demanding excursions.
